Light and air
were the main things the owners of this pre-Soviet building in the center of Kyiv desired. They wanted a bright, gentle, soft home with plenty of space.
To ensure the interior architecture of the apartment harmonizes with the building’s architecture, we decided to style the carpentry elements closer to traditional construction practice. Therefore, the doors, door handles, and window sills have a more classical form than the furniture and lighting.
Layout
The central area is open and spacious, designed for the whole family, featuring a kitchen, a large dining table, a fireplace, and a cozy sofa.
The bedrooms for adults and children have symmetric entrances on either side of the living area.
Kitchen
Above the sink, we installed an electric towel warmer for kitchen towels and dishcloths, designed like a metal tube. The tiles on the backsplash and floor are elongated hexagons of the same shape.
In the cabinet with a mirrored front, built into a niche, household items are hidden away. The line of kitchen furniture continues into the hallway.
Bedroom
A pair of lamps, one pendant and one wall-mounted, made of felt and transparent plastic. The mirror near the vanity table expands the small space. The cabinet is tucked into a niche.
Kids’ room
An open space that can be transformed as needed. The cabinet is tucked into a niche.
Bathroom
Like the entire apartment, everything here is in white with accents of wood. Next to the bathtub, a slim bench-shelf was designed. The globe-shaped lights echo the form of the globe-shaped lights above the bar table.
I personally designed and made the ceramic cup and soap bowl by hand.
